St Simons Island Fishing Report 4-29-11

Jeff of SawltGear Custom Rods and I went out for a little fun fishing behind St Simons Island.  We had a fairly productive day catching 14 Trout, with a couple pushing 20", and only one short fish in the bunch.  Had a handful of Reds, including pulling the hook on a good one.  Jeff's weapon of choice was the cork and DOA rig, and it proved deadly.    The Trout eagerly fell for the imitation shrimp throughout the falling tide.  Jeff had six trout in the boat before I put away my plugs and jigs and switched to the DOA and tried to play catch-up.  To add insult to injury, Jeff dug out a nice flounder to complete his slam.  Gonna have to put a blog on the website about my love/hate relationship with cork/float rigs...which if used properly, are still the most deadly rigs in the marsh, rivers, sounds, beach and nearshore.
